Deleting duplicate files

To reclaim free space, you can select and delete duplicate files from the list Decloner generated during scan. Decloner will never delete files by itself. Even when you select and delete files in Decloner, it moves the files to Trash so you can recover them if you change your mind.

Decloner shows duplicate files in groups. Each group contains identical files that may have different names and/or locations. The file information area below the list shows information for the currently selected file and its icon.

By default, Decloner will not allow you to delete all files from a duplicate file group. At least one copy of a file has to remain unmarked, otherwise the entire group will be ignored. You can turn this option off in the Preferences panel.

To select and delete duplicate files:

Put a check mark against files you want to delete, or press Command-M to mark/unmark the currently selected file or group.

To preview the selected file using QuickLook, press space bar. Pressing space bar again closes QuickLook. While QuickLook is active, use arrow keys to select other files in the list.

To expand all groups, choose Expand All command from the View menu button, or press Command-Right arrow.

To collapse all groups, choose Collapse All command from the View menu button or press Command-Left arrow.

To select all duplicate files, leaving only the newest file in each group of duplicates, choose Keep Newest command from the Select menu button.

To select all duplicate files, leaving only the oldest file in each group of duplicates, click Keep Oldest button.

To delete the selected file only, click Delete button or press Command-Delete.

To delete all marked files, click Delete All Marked button or press Alt-Command-Delete.
